🕺 How to play Freeze Dance with kids
Dance while the music plays, freeze when it stops, and hold the silly pose that gets called out.
Ages 2+ · Players 1 or more · Time 5–15 minutes · You need some floor to dance on
Rules
- Put the music somewhere everyone can hear it.
- When the music plays, everybody dances, grown-ups included.
- When it stops, everyone FREEZES in the pose that gets called out ("a flamingo!", "a teddy bear!").
- Wobbled? Nobody is out. Giggle, and get ready for the next song.
Make it fit the youngest player
- Ages 2–4: Long dances, short freezes and easy poses like "a teddy bear".
- Ages 5–7: Trickier poses and the odd slow-motion or super-speed song.
- Ages 8–10: Quick stops, hard poses, and sometimes nobody is allowed to blink.
Nobody is ever out: a mistake becomes a wiggle or a giggle, so the littlest player keeps playing.
No phone? No problem
One person sings or hums and stops suddenly, then shouts a pose. Take turns being the singer.
Or let the phone run it
Romparoo plays the music and stops it when nobody expects it, so the grown-up dances too instead of standing at the pause button. Then it calls out a pose to freeze in. Freeze Party is one of nine games in Romparoo, a free iPhone app with no ads, no accounts and no tracking. It is coming soon to the App Store.
Play safely
Clear the floor, keep cushions low and never climb on furniture. A grown-up should always be around when little ones play.
