Common questions

The barcode scanner found the book, but the details are wrong or missing.

Book details come from Open Library, an open catalogue that anyone can improve. Some editions are missing a page count or have a different title. Tap the book, then the menu, then Edit details to fix it on your phone. You can also add or correct the edition at openlibrary.org.

Can I add a book without scanning?

Yes. Tap +, then type the title, author and page count. Nothing is sent anywhere when you type a book in.

I forgot to start the timer. How do I record what I read?

Tap Log pages on the book and enter the page you reached. It counts for your pages per day and your streak.

When does my streak break?

Only when a whole day passes without reading. If you haven't read yet today, yesterday's streak still stands until midnight.

How do I change this year's goal?

In the Year tab, or in Settings (the gear on Today). Each year keeps its own goal.

How do I keep a quote?

Open the Quotes tab or a book, tap Keep a line, photograph the page or choose a photo, and tap the lines you want. The text is read on your iPhone and the photo is not saved. You can also type a line by hand.

How do I change the app's language?

Ribbonleaf follows your iPhone's language. To use a different one, add it under Settings › General › Language & Region, then pick it on Ribbonleaf's page in Settings (Settings in the app has a shortcut).

I bought Ribbonleaf Plus on another iPhone.

Open Settings in Ribbonleaf and tap Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account.

How do I cancel the subscription?

In your iPhone's Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date; you keep Plus until the end of the paid period.

Is my reading private?

Yes. There's no account, no social feed and no analytics. Everything stays on your iPhone; only an ISBN is sent to Open Library when you look a book up. See the privacy policy.
