Ribbonleaf

Privacy policy

Last updated: 24 October 2026

Ribbonleaf is a reading journal for iPhone made by Reba Labs ("we"). This policy explains what happens to the information you put into Ribbonleaf. The short version: it stays on your iPhone, and we never receive it.

What Ribbonleaf stores

  • your books: title, author, ISBN, page count, shelf, the page you reached, your rating and notes, and the spine colour you chose;
  • your reading sessions: when they started and ended, and the pages read;
  • the quotes you keep, with their page numbers;
  • photos of your own copies, if you add one;
  • your yearly goals and settings.

All of this is stored only on your iPhone, inside Ribbonleaf's own storage, which its widgets and Live Activity read to show your current book and shelf.

Book lookups (Open Library)

When you scan a barcode or tap Find, Ribbonleaf sends only the book's ISBN to Open Library, a free library catalogue run by the Internet Archive, to fill in the title, author and page count. The request carries no name, account or device identifier; like any web request it reaches Open Library from your internet connection's IP address. The Internet Archive's privacy policy applies to that request. Ribbonleaf downloads no cover images. If you type a book in by hand, nothing is sent.

Camera and photos

The camera is used only after you tap: to scan a barcode, or to photograph a page so you can pick the lines to keep. Text recognition runs on your iPhone; the page photo is not saved. When you choose a photo from your library, Ribbonleaf only sees the photo you pick.

What we collect

Nothing. Ribbonleaf has no account, no servers, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party SDKs. We cannot see, access or recover anything you enter. The App Store privacy label for Ribbonleaf is "Data Not Collected".

Purchases

Ribbonleaf Plus is sold through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; we receive no payment details. The app asks the App Store whether you have an active purchase so it can unlock Plus.

Backups

Like other app data, Ribbonleaf's data can be included in your iPhone backups (iCloud Backup or a backup to your computer) if you have them turned on. Those backups are handled by Apple under your Apple Account settings and Apple's privacy policy. We have no access to them.

Data Apple shares with developers

If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics, such as how many people installed the app. These contain no information you entered into Ribbonleaf. When you test a beta through TestFlight, any feedback or screenshots you send through TestFlight reach us.

Children

Ribbonleaf is suitable for all ages and collects nothing from anyone, children included.

Deleting your data

Delete a book (with its sessions and quotes) from the book's menu; delete a quote by touching and holding it. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your iPhone.

Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete on our side. With Ribbonleaf Plus you can export your books as a CSV file from Settings. If you have any question about privacy, write to privacy@reba-labs.com.

Changes

If Ribbonleaf ever starts handling data differently, we will update this policy before that version is released and change the date above.
